The legend of the Garden

That legend is related to the owner of the castle Nikolai Sviatopolk-Mirsky. During the restoration of the castle, he ordered to cut down an old garden, and instead dig a huge pond. One man dead during harvesting, whose mother cursed all the Count’s race and that place. And soon a little Nikolai’s daughter Sonia drowned in that pond, and after a time, Nikolai himself was found dead on the shore of the pond.

Mir Castle in Belarus – Part 3

Only in the 1730s Mir Castle resumed proper form with the new acquisitions: main hall, a dance hall, a portrait gallery. In 1785, the castle at Pan Kohanku was visited by King Stanislaw August, which struck down outright beauty and luxury decoration of the castle. However, after the death of Pan Kohanku and the elimination of the Rzeczpospolita the Mir castle fortress lost its importance. Soon after the death of the last heir Radziwill the castle passed to the genus Wittgenstein, but then pretty quick to Sviatopolk-Mirsky.

Mir Castle in Belarus – Part 2

There is Holy Trinity Church not far from the Mir Castle in the village of Mir. It was built in the XVI century by Nikolai Radziwill Orphan. In 1705 the church became Unitarian in bazilian monastery, and since 1839 it preaches orthodoxy. In the second half of the XIX century the church was not just tolerated the external changes and now has the form of four rooms: a vestibule, belfry, a refectory, a room for prayer and an apse with vestry in the form of a semicircle.

Mir Castle in Belarus – Part 1

The Mir Castle – a monument of medieval architecture, which is a defensive consolidation and ancestral residence in the urban village of Mir, Korelichsky district, Grodno region. This architectural complex consists of generic residence-fortress, earthen ramparts, picturesque English-style park, the reconstructed Italian garden, a big beautiful lake, lodge and a chapel-tomb genus Sviatopolk-Mirski, guard house, as well as a roadside chapel. In 2000, being a branch of the National Art Museum, it was inscribed as World Heritage by UNESCO.

Minsk in the Grand Principality of Lithuania

Since the beginning of the XII century, Minsk was proclaimed the center of an independent principality. During the XIII century, it spread from one prince to the next. By the end of the XIII century weakened the principality passed to the Lithuanian princes and the beginning of XIV century Minsk became a part of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania. Minsk quietly grown into a major craft and trade center. He was among the fifteen largest cities in the Grand Duchy.
